If you are like me, you like getting the best price on the Internet but don’t enjoy hunting around multiple sites to get the best deal.
If only there was something that would do the hard work for us!
Enter the InvisibleHand!
What is the Invisible Hand plugin?
This handy price comparison browser plugin sits running in the background ready to spring into life when its needed.
Imagine the scenario, you’ve found the new Susan Boyle album on Amazon.co.uk and you’re about to hit the “buy” button. But almost instantly a little unobtrusive box drops down at the top of your browser telling you that you can buy the same album a little cheaper over at Play.com.
One click later and you are transported over to the other site, with no extra effort you’ve just saved yourself a little bit of cash.
Key features:
- InvisibleHand remains invisible until it finds a deal on a product you’re shopping for
- Unlike price comparison sites, InvisibleHand provides real time product prices
- InvisibleHand can find cheaper flights as you search
- If you google a product, InvisibleHand can automatically show the lowest real-time price
What are the Problems with InvisibleHand?
There are a couple of things that this application dosen’t take into account:
- Bulk purchasing: I am all for saving a few pounds here and there but there are limits to how far I will go. If I am buying a whole load of books I am not all that interested in comparing each individual product and placing multiple orders with multiple stores paying multiple postage fees. I’m just going to go to Amazon.co.uk and be done with it!
- Works with some products better than others: Invisible hand works well when comparing products that can be easily distinguished. For example a book or film is the same no matter what site you buy it from. However other products aren’t so easy to compare, is the iPod it finds the same generation? Does it have the same capacity? It might be cheaper but it might not be the same!
- Postage Costs: At the time of writing the app doesn’t factor in postage costs. This can get frustrating as sites like Play.com and CD-Wow.com don’t charge for posting and you might get told it’s cheaper elsewhere only to find out the total cost is actually more! Hopefully this will be added in soon.
But these minor problems aside, I can only recommend installing Invisible Hand right away. You won’t notice it until it has something useful to say and when it does you could save yourself a few pounds!
